Atmos

Atmos - derived from the Ancient Greek atmós (ἀτμός), meaning vapor, steam, or smoke - presents works, experiments, and photographs shaped by two atmospheres: that of the kiln, and that of the residency.

Developed over a two-month period at Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, the works have moved through electric, gas, wood, charcoal, raku, and pit firings, each atmosphere producing distinct material conditions and outcomes. Alongside this, the residency itself - marked by exchange, proximity, and shared enquiry - has offered a departure from a typically solitary practice.

Atmos reflects this convergence: a period of sustained experimentation, knowledge-building, and collaboration, where atmosphere is both the condition of making and its conceptual ground.

Thank you to the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park and the Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute for their exceptional facilities, knowledge, and support, which have enabled sustained experimentation, enquiry, and the development of new work.

「アトモス」

は、古代ギリシャ語の atmós（ἀτμός）に由来し、「蒸気」「煙」を意味します。本展では、二つの「雰囲気（アトモスフィア）」によって形づくられた作品、実験、写真を提示します。それは、窯と焼成のもたらす雰囲気、そして滞在制作という環境のもたらす雰囲気です。

これらの作品は、信楽陶芸の森における二ヶ月間の滞在制作の中で制作されました。電気、ガス、薪、炭、楽焼、ピットファイアリングといった多様な焼成を経ることで、それぞれの雰囲気が異なる物質的条件と結果を生み出しています。同時に、交流や近接性、共同の探究によって特徴づけられる滞在環境は、通常の個人的で孤立した制作からの離脱をもたらしました。

「アトモス」は、このような複数の要素の交差を映し出します。継続的な実験、知の形成、協働の時間であり、雰囲気は制作の条件であると同時に、その概念的基盤でもあります。

信楽陶芸の森および信楽窯業技術試験場の卓越した設備、知識、そして支援に深く感謝いたします。これらは、継続的な実験と探究、そして新たな作品の展開を可能にしました。
